She dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove,
A Mai whon there were none to praise
And very few to love;
A violet by a massya stone
Half hidden from the eye!
– Fair as a star, when only one
I shining in the sky.
She lived unknown, and few could know
When Lucy ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and, oh,
The difference to me!

তারকার মতো দীপ্তিময় যখন কেবল একজনই
সারা আকাশে জ্বাজ্বল্যমান।
নিভৃতে থাকত সে, চিনত কম লোকেই
যখন লুসি ক্ষান্ত হলো;
কিন্তু এখন সে তার সমাধির মাঝে, আহা,
এটুকুই যা তফাৎ!
The Theme : “She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways” is one of Wordworth’s five “Lucy” poems. Although many have speculated on whether a real Lucy existed, who she was and what relationship she had with Wordsworth, the truth remains shrouded in mystery. The “Lucy” poems celebrate nature, and the virtue and beauty of a simple, solitary life lived close to nature. They also capture an intense love, and the ultimate sorrow of the poet’s loss of his beloved Lucy to an early death.
