Corruption is a great problem all over the
world in all ages. It is a form of dishonest or immoral behavior that means
abuse of power for self-interest. It takes many forms such as bribery,
embezzlement, nepotism, extortion, fraud and money laundering. However,
corruption is prevalent in both the public and private sectors. And, it affects
every aspect of society from education and health to business and politics. It
has serious negative effects on any country. In the context of Bangladesh,
corruption is the number one problem that has broken the economic backbone of
our country. According to the Transparency International (TI) report,
Bangladesh has been championed five times in corruption. Actually, there are
many causes of corruption such as weak governance, lack of accountability,
greed and self-interest, poverty and inequality, political instability, lack of
transparency, etc. However, corruption has serious negative impacts on
individuals, societies and economies. It undermines public trust and baffles economic
development by reducing investment. It also leads to political instability by
undermining the legitimacy of governments and fueling social unrest. So, corruption
must be stopped anyhow. Otherwise, the true development of a country will
never be possible any day with corruption.
